About the Event

The origins of Morris dancing were just as obscure in the 17th century as they are today. This programme explores some of the questions people had about the original nature of the tradition: was it native or foreign? High or low? Ancient pagan or just plain devilish?

For this concert, Norwich Baroque will be weaving together dance tunes published by the musically omnivorous, Norwich-born John Playford (1623-86) with Spanish, Italian, and English music from the 17th century, along with some Morris tunes in use today - plus an actual dance or two by Jonathan Hooton, from Norwich's own Golden Star Morris side.

Admission to this concert will be £20 for adults, £10 for students and children admitted free of charge.
